Week 6: Portfolio, Resume, Cover Letter

This week I was at GDC and wasn't able to animate as much as I would have liked to. I did manage to set up a portfolio website with Wordpress and set up a basic resume. I wasn't quite sure what to do with the cover letter however.

I think I have a basic portfolio website set up. There's still a LOT of customization I have to do, but I have all the sections I need (contact, portfolio, about, blog).

A friend of mine showed me a website that has a lot of resume templates so I used one of those and filled in the information as much as I could. The Other Work Experience section has to be updated. A I've had a few more jobs after these ones. I don't quite like how the Skills and Software section looks. I'm also probably going to change my interests, but I found icons for those things so I figured I could use those temporarily as place holders. I might get rid of the Achievements section? I'm not sure. I'm definitely going to up the font size. I think I may have spent a little too much time on my resume. All they'll really care about is my demo reel. A "pretty" resume isn't going to suddenly make them want to hire me.

Here is my cover letter so far. Not much is done. I've decided to keep it as short and sweet as possible. When looking up what studios look for in a cover letter most said to keep it short and sweet (about 2 paragraphs) because there is a good likely hood they won't get the chance to look at it. I figured I'd have one paragraph more about myself and my skills (basically an introduction of who I am and what I do). Then the other paragraph would be more about the company and why I'd be a good fit based off what they're looking for. Now I have to find an employer?
